Louis Riel and Métis Veterans Honour Day

Louis Riel and Métis Veterans Honour Day
Saturday, November 16 — 11 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Batoche National Historic Site
Join us as we pay our respects to Louis Riel, to the Métis Veterans, and to all veterans who have served and sacrificed to maintain our rights and freedom. The honouring ceremony will include a procession to the cemetery where a wreath will be laid. Transportation to the cemetery will be available for those who need or want it. We will celebrate our freedom with entertainment from Donny Parenteau and Joseph Desjarlais.
The celebration will include the launch of “Métis Matriarchs Agents of Transition” edited by Cheryl Troupe and Doris Jeanne MacKinnon. “Métis Matriarchs” examines the impact of prominent Métis women from across Western Canada from the late 19th to the m id-20th century. It provides a rare glimpse into the everyday lives of these remarkable figures who were recognized as Matriarchs and who were respected for their knowledge, expertise, and authority within their families and communities.
Hosted by Parks Canada, Friends of Batoche, and the Gabriel Dumont Institute
Everyone Welcome!
