On April 16, 2021, The Saskatchewan Book Awards (SBA) announced their final short-list nominees for 2021. At this online presentation, GDI Press and author Cort Dogniez received two short-list nominations for the Saskatchewan Book Awards for the book, “Road to La Prairie Ronde.” The illustrations by Jade McDougall have helped this book receive this recognition.
In a press release from the SBA, Executive Director Kam Teo states, “We are celebrating 28 years of excellence in writing and publishing in Saskatchewan. Once again, we are very proud of this year’s nominees which reflect the diversity of our authors and publishers.”
The awards offer 14 annual or semi-annual awards to celebrate, promote, and reward Saskatchewan authors and publishers worthy of recognition. “Road to La Prairie Ronde” is nominated in two categories, one in which gives a nod to the author and the other gives a nod to the publisher. The two categories are detailed below:
First Book Award In honour of Brenda Macdonald Riches.
This award is presented to a Saskatchewan author (or pair of authors) for the best first book, judged on the quality of writing.
Publishing in Education Award This award is presented to the Saskatchewan publisher of the best book produced as an educational resource, based on its value to educators at primary, secondary, or post-secondary levels; literary or artistic value; the quality of editing; book design; production and content.
The Gabriel Dumont Institute would like to congratulate all nominees and thank the SBA for the nomination. The online ceremony announcing the winner of the 2021 Saskatchewan Book Awards will take place on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 7:00 PM. The program will be broadcast live through the SBA website www.bookawards.sk.ca and their Facebook page.
