The Winter 2022 edition of The New Nation: La noovel naasyoon magazine is now available online. Published by the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI); the quarterly magazine promotes Métis culture, highlights GDI’s programs and successes, and showcases good-news stories of Métis across the province.

The cover art for this edition is by Métis artist, Joanne Panas who provided the illustrations for Jeanne Pelletier’s The Story of the Rabbit Dance/Li Nistwaar di la Daans
di Liyév. This is an engaging story that tells how this dance came to be a favourite among the Métis, the book was published in 2007 and although it is out of print, it is available as a PDF file on the Institute’s Virtual Museum of Métis History and Culture at https://www.metismuseum.ca/browse/index.php/13109.

The contents of this issue include several stories about the remarkable accomplishments of Métis from across the province; including Autumn LaRose-Smith, who recently became the first president of the Provincial Métis Youth Council (PMYC),  and Holly Aubichon who won the BMO First Art! Award for her piece named “Modern Medicine”. Furthermore, this issue showcases the success of many GDI students, graduates, alumni.

GDI is pleased to provide free access to the magazine on our website here.
It is also posted on the Virtual Museum for Métis History and Culture here.

A limited print run will also be available.
