The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research invites applications for the following position:

Our Mission Statement: To promote the renewal and development of Métis culture through research, materials development, collection and distribution of those materials, and the design, development and delivery of Métis-specific educational programs and services.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI), the Director of GDI Culture and Heritage will be responsible for the overall administration of the department’s work, including but not limited to: providing detailed reports on GDI Cultural and Heritage work and activities to the CEO and GDI Board as required; developing and implementing programs that meet the goals of the Institute; managing the overall human resources of the department including the supervision of the senior administrative staff; overseeing the ongoing processes required to develop, maintain, and enhance annual plans for producing resources, maintaining and creating partnerships, and planning and delivery of cultural events; preparing budgets, financial and other reports as required; liaising and maintaining relationships with relevant departments and agencies of the federal, provincial, and Métis Nation governments; working collaboratively with the other members of the GDI senior management team to support the GDI mission, vision and strategic plan; and any other duties consistent with the Culture and Heritage Director position, as assigned by the CEO of GDI.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Education, Educational Administration, Business Administration or a related discipline. Candidates currently enrolled in a Master’s program may be considered. Must have several years of related and successful experience in the education and cultural sector, publishing acumen, experience working with community groups and individuals, knowledge of Métis culture and history, an understanding of intercultural and cross-cultural issues, and exceptional oral and written communication skills. An understanding of, and demonstrated proficiency in, the use of a variety of software programs is essential. Knowledge of Canadian museum standards would be considered an asset.
