The Gabriel Dumont Institute is proud to announce the appointment of David Morin as the new Director of Culture and Heritage. Following an extensive external search, David was selected for his deep expertise in Métis education, publishing, and curriculum development, as well as his longstanding contributions to the Institute.
David brings over 21 years of experience with GDI, most recently serving as a Curriculum Developer in the Culture and Heritage department. A proud Métis from St. Adolphe, Manitoba, right along the Red River, David has made Saskatchewan his home since childhood. He is a graduate of Saskatoon SUNTEP and holds a Master of Education in Educational Technology and Design from the University of Saskatchewan. Throughout his career, David has played a vital role in preserving and promoting Métis knowledge and culture. He has worked with Michif knowledge keepers, served as the graphic designer and editor for more than 100 books published by GDI Press, and contributed over 60 articles to various educational and cultural publications. He has also helped many communities and organizations across the province access the Métis Cultural Development Fund (in partnership with SaskCulture), supporting the growth and visibility of Métis arts and traditions.
David has built strong working relationships with partners such as Batoche National Historic Site, Saskatchewan Anskohk Writers’ Circle Inc., SaskBooks, the University of Saskatchewan, the Canadian Museum of History, and many more. He has also been instrumental in the creation and ongoing development of the Virtual Museum of Métis History and Culture — a treasured online space that houses stories, images, and voices from Métis communities across the province. As he steps into his new leadership role, David is excited to carry forward the legacy of the Culture and Heritage department while continuing to explore new opportunities for collaboration. His goal remains clear: to amplify Métis voices, authors, artists, and community.
The Institute looks forward to the continued strength and innovation David will bring to the Culture & Heritage department.
