GDI 40th Anniversary Celebrations: An Appreciation

On February 7, 2020, I attended the Gabriel Dumont Institute 40th Anniversary celebration and Order of Gabriel Dumont Awards in Saskatoon where my mother Norma Welsh was presented with the Silver Medal Award. I didn’t want to let the opportunity go by to thank Gabriel Dumont Institute. The gratitude for this award goes without saying, but I also wanted to comment on the venue, food, and entertainment.

The whole experience was amazing. It was a magical night and not just because my mother received this prestigious award, but because the planning and organizing was so well done.

My favorite part of the evening was the entertainment. The band, the fiddlers, and the interaction were just beyond compare. I was so impressed and entertained, and was so happy to see the traditional Métis music was being played and everyone was encouraged to join in. I just can’t say enough about the entertainment other than that I was just so impressed to see that we have that kind of talent in our community.

It was such a proud moment, not just because of my Mom (even though we are so incredibly proud of her), but also pride for my heritage and my community. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Very impressive evening and your efforts did not go unnoticed.

With Gratitude.
