Indigenous Liaison Officer and Indigenous Community Liaison Officer

GDI’s partnership with Correction Services Canada (CSC) continues to foster the development of CSC’s Indigenous strategy.

CSC is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community. They are currently hiring regional and provincial Indigenous Liaison Officers.

JOB Duties

The Indigenous Liaison Officer position is an essential component to the Indigenous Continuum of Care. Indigenous Liaison Officers interpret and communicate Indigenous offender behaviour, treatment needs, and progress to the Case Management Team for inclusion in correctional/healing plans to promote the safe release of Indigenous offenders and to reduce the recidivism rate. They develop and deliver Indigenous interventions and establish a link with the offenders and Elders to provide them with information regarding cultural/spiritual programming, activities, and resources, fostering a positive Indigenous cultural environment.

The Indigenous Community Liaison Officer position is a critical component of the Indigenous Continuum of care. Indigenous Community Liaison Officer‘s provide the link between the community and the offender. They assist in the Case Management Team to identify community contacts needed to assist the offender prior to release and upon release. They build the relationship with the community agencies.
