Join us for this one-day workshop where you will turn the iconic Hudson Bay point blanket into a capote, the kind of coat that kept our ancestors warmer and dryer as they worked and lived years ago.
Because of the key role of the Métis during the fur trade, and during bison hunting days on the prairies, it has come to symbolize Métis pride and ingenuity.
All work is done by hand.
Many people without sewing experience have made capotes and most participants will finish their capote by the day’s end.
For this workshop, the fee of $375.00 covers the instruction and facilitation, the use of our patterns, historical information on the capote, and the supplies.
The supplies consist of your choice of blanket, the needle and threader, the sewing yarn, and an instruction book.
You will be able to take home your capote, your book, some yarn if you wish to embellish the raw edges with stitching, and your needle and threader.
GDI will be keeping the unused portions of the blankets for further workshops.
Please contact Ryan Nordmarken at ryan.nordmarken@gdins.org or 306-657-5715 to register and make your payment.
We require 72 hours notice for cancellations and a $50 administration fee.
