GDI Indigenous Apprenticeship Department, is now calling for resumes & cover letters for qualified Scaffolder apprentices for employment opportunities within this trade sector. Focus is on certified level 2 and 3’s however, all levels are welcome to apply. Employment is based out of South East & Western Saskatchewan.

3^rd Year Apprentice Scaffolder

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Scaffolders erect and dismantle temporary work support platforms or structures that hold workers, tools, equipment, and construction components. Scaffolders provide other trades with safe, secure access to areas both indoors and outdoors.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Assess foundations for suitable and safe placement of scaffolding
• Calculate loads to determine platform size and bracing requirements
• Design and construction of ground based and/or suspended scaffolds
• Installs steel pipes, support braces and clamps to form bases for scaffolds
• Move or dismantle of existing scaffolding (ladders, handrailing, platforms) at the completion of a job
• Inspect and examine structures and equipment for deterioration, defects or non-compliance with specifications
• Planning, ordering and on-site management of scaffolding materials
• Ensure that all company policies and procedures are followed, and on-site client relations are positive
• Scaffolders work mostly outdoors at a variety of locations, extreme heights, and all-weather conditions

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Prior experience as a Scaffolder. Individual must be a registered apprentice through the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATTC) and possess third year Scaffolder hours.
• Individuals must be current members of United Brotherhood of Carpenters or willing to obtain a membership.
• Must have previous experience working in an industrial setting (No commercial or residential experience will be considered at this time)
• Completion of Grade 10; Requires basic math skills
• Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
• Requires the ability to work at heights and work with proper safety restraints
• Must have physical strength and endurance
• Willingness to learn new skills and advance your knowledge within the scaffolding trade
• Strong active listening skills – As an Apprentice, it is critical to actively listen to instructions given, can paraphrase and take that information and apply it/follow it.
• Strong Communication skills – Must be comfortable asking questions and understand the task at hand, as well be comfortable to come forward to supervision if there are any concerns with the work of safety related items.
• Driver’s license would be an asset. In lieu of license, individual must have reliable transportation to and from site location. Given the location of our sites and the frequency of travel, individuals must be able to travel to site locations.
• Successful completion of pre-access alcohol and drug test.
• Must be work ready and available to work a variety of scheduled shift durations common within construction and maintenance. Some of the shift rotations we work are:
  • 4 x 10 hour days (Mon to Thurs or Tues to Fri)
  • 5 x 8 hours days (Mon to Friday)
  • 10 days on, 4 days off
  • 12 days on, 2 days off

 

REQUIRED SAFETY TICKETS:

• Fall Protection ticket
• Confined Space Entry/ Monitor ticket
• Rights and Responsibilities course offered through the Construction Opportunities Development Council (CODC)
• Safety Construction Orientation Training (SCOT) offered through the Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association (SCSA)

In addition to the above Safety tickets, certain sites have additional requirements:

K+S site requirements

• General Mine Safety Awareness Training
