The Métis Nation—Saskatchewan (MN—S) announced a new one-time $3.5M investment in post-secondary education for Gabriel Dumont Institute Training and Employment students and clients. The benefit is part of the MN—S’ Year of the Youth initiative, a comprehensive effort focused on empowering MN—S citizens in their educational journeys.
“Empowering our Métis youth through education is not just an investment in their future; it is an investment in the future of our Métis Nation, said MN—S President Glen McCallum. “We firmly believe that education is a cornerstone of self-determination and the key to shaping a brighter future for our Métis Nation.”
GDI was contracted to administer the benefit to approximately 1,500 current GDI Métis students and clients in post-secondary diploma, certificate, and degree programs. This benefit is allocated to cover various essential expenses directly associated with their education, including living costs, textbooks, tools, and other program-related expenditures.
“It’s truly heartening to see more support extended towards empowering our Métis students in post-secondary education. The additional sponsorship came at a wonderful time, alleviating financial pressures and allowing students to concentrate on their studies,” said Audrey Hestand, Director of GDI Training and Employment.
This collaboration stands as a testament to the profound impact that strategic investments can have in shaping a brighter future for the Métis community, ensuring that education remains a pathway to empowerment and success for students, families, and communities.
